Tooth Extractions In Downtown Toronto

Most of the time, teeth can be repaired. But not always. When a tooth is badly broken, infected, or too loose to function, the best solution may be to take it out. Patients usually come in worried about pain, but the procedure itself is straightforward and recovery is usually quicker than they expect.

Why A Tooth Might Need Removal

A tooth may need to be removed for several reasons: severe decay that can’t be repaired with a filling, a fracture that extends below the gumline, an infection that doesn’t respond to treatment, or in some cases, a crowded bite where there simply isn’t enough space.

What Happens During An Extraction

The area is fully numbed, so you don’t feel pain — just some pressure. The tooth is gently loosened and lifted out. If it’s more complicated, the dentist may take it out in sections. Once it’s done, gauze is placed to help with clotting, and you’ll go home with instructions written down so nothing is left unclear.

After The Appointment

It’s normal to have swelling or tenderness for a few days. Rest, avoid smoking or using straws, and stick to softer foods at first. Most patients feel much better within the week. If there’s a gap left behind, we’ll talk about next steps — like an implant, a bridge, or simply giving the area time to heal before deciding.
