Looking in the mouth only tells part of the story. Cavities often start between teeth, bone can change without obvious signs, and infections hide at the roots. Digital X-rays give us that inside view. It’s quick, safe, and shows what we’d otherwise miss.
What They Help Us Find
Sometimes it’s a cavity hiding between teeth, the kind you’d never notice brushing at home. Other times it’s bone loss around a tooth that hints at gum disease. X-rays can also reveal infections sitting quietly at the root, the position of wisdom teeth before they cause trouble, or problems tucked under an old filling or crown.
Why Patients Appreciate Them
They’re fast. The image shows up right away on the screen, so we can point out what’s going on. They also use less radiation than older systems, which gives peace of mind. Most people like being able to actually see the problem instead of just hearing about it.
When We Recommend Them
Not at every visit. For some people, once a year is enough. Others may need them more often, especially if there are ongoing issues or complex treatment underway. The point isn’t to take them all the time — it’s to use them when they give us answers we can’t get otherwise.
